Tips on choosing your domain:
|
- It should be spelt the way it sounds: often, you will be telling people your web address or email address over the phone or in a situation where you cannot simply write it down for them. You should not have to waste time and effort elaborating on hyphens, numbers or strangely-spelt words!
- Two or Three Words, Maximum! Very long web addresses look messy and are easy to mis-remember or type incorrectly.
- Geographical Location: If you are a UK company, it may be worth registering the .co.uk version and the .com version of your chosen domain name. People in the UK are used to both, but can mix them up. If you only register 'www.greenwidgets.co.uk' and someone you spoke to last week tries to go to 'www.greenwidgets.com', they won't find your site. You don't need a different site for each name; all of the domain names can point to the same web site.

Why Register a Domain Name?
Today there is little doubt that everyone in business, small or large, in trade or a professional, needs a website virtually as much as they need a factory or office.
The main reason to register a domain name, and to create a site to go along with it, is to strengthen your company's brand and to bring all of your services and resources to the customer in one location that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
A well-designed site will help your business to grow if it achieves a decent position with the various search engines. This will mean that more people will come across your site, and hopefully some of those people will be converted into clients!
Of course, there is the additional benefit of professional-looking email addresses; instead of using 'dave123@hotmail.com', you could correspond with clients and business partners with an address all of your own.
